What I do

Picture

Since 2007, I've created many hand-made products, the most recent being quilts inspired by a very special little guy who has tactile sensitivities, allergies, and fabric preferences.  The first quilt was created to his specifications and he reports that he is quite satisfied and that “It is soft, smells good, and gives me ‘luck’.”  I make products that provide babies (and others) with a soft and safe sleep [and waking!] experience, and to encourage sustainability and reduce the environmental impact of traditional fabric and other materials.  My ORGANIC cotton and NATURAL alpaca and wool products are low-impact and hand-dyed.  With the least amount of processing involved, they are safer for a wee one’s skin.  There is nothing better to start or end a child’s day than a soft, safe, and comforting environment.

WhY It's Important TO Me

Eco-friendly materials are free of harmful chemicals and are less harmful to the environment. Standard fabrics and materials are usually exposed to a myriad of potentially dangerous chemicals by the time they are worked into the garments and other products that we use daily.

This includes the growth and the manufacturing processes. Even though the amount of chemicals in the final product is regulated, the potential hazard remains, which may cause allergies, skin sensitivities, and other health risks.

These chemical-laden products not only directly affect you through wear, but also indirectly through their ecological impact on the land where they are processed and to the health of the people who process them.

MY WORK

I prefer to work in organic cotton, peace (or ahimsa) silk, and natural alpaca and wool. I attempt to purchase both fabric and yarn from sources that are closest to where I work; local if available, made in the U.S.A. when possible, and from free-trade or sustainable sources worldwide.

I dye them using GOTS certified materials and processes to reduce the impact on people and planet.

I've discovered over time that there is no such thing as "no impact," Just living on this Earth has an impact. And so I strive for "low impact" as much as possible.
